and other foreign language TV possibilities

If enough neighbours in a block want it, you could get together and hire a satellite service.
If you want to explore this and get in touch with your neighbours, you can ask Sergio to send a message to them to ask if anyone is interested.
I recommend you get a QUOTE from a local installation company so you know the price and details to share with your neighbours. Some satellites capture French, or German, or international channels depending on the orientation.
A recommended service provider is DISA TV and they are just 5 minute walk from our apartments, this is a reliable, German and English speaking company (Susan has years of experience working with them - tell them Susan sent you):
BBC, Sky and English Channels
BBC is notorious for limiting access only to tax paying British citizens and residents.
You can access it if you are a UK citizen (get your access codes and app installed while in the UK!). You can find some providers of SKY tv in Spain - if anyone has recommendations please add to the comments below.
IPTV
Iptv is a box that works on your wifi or internet and gets thousands of English and other channels, illegally.
The box costs a few hundred and installation probably the same. Every so often the authorities catch on and change the frequencies of broadcast, and you're out of luck - investment wasted and you have to buy a new box. The connection is also unstable unless you have excellent wifi and no interference, this can generate customer complaints if you're renting. We had it for a while and found the menu system confusing and hard to find the channel you wanted. But there sure were a lot of channels.
Exploring Foreign Language TV Options in Spain
Living in Spain offers a unique cultural experience, but for those who wish to maintain a connection with their home country's television programming, there are several ways to access foreign language TV. This post explores various methods to watch channels like the BBC and other national programs on a Spanish smart TV.
1. Smart TV Apps
Many smart TVs come equipped with apps that allow you to stream content from various countries. Here are some popular options:
BBC iPlayer: If you have a UK TV license, you can access BBC iPlayer through a VPN (Virtual Private Network) that masks your location, allowing you to stream shows directly on your smart TV.
Netflix and Amazon Prime: Both platforms offer a range of international content. You can access different libraries by using a VPN to change your region.
Other Streaming Services: Look for apps like Hulu or Disney+, which may also have international content, but ensure they are available in Spain.
2. Using a VPN
A VPN is a powerful tool for accessing content that may be restricted in your region. Here’s how to set it up:
Choose a Reliable VPN: Select a VPN service that has servers in the country of the content you want to access (e.g., the UK for BBC).
Install the VPN: Many smart TVs allow VPN installation, but if yours doesn’t, you can set it up on your router or use a device like a Fire Stick.
Connect and Stream: Once connected to a UK server, you can access BBC iPlayer and other UK channels.
3. Satellite TV
Satellite TV services often provide access to international channels. Consider these options:
Sky TV: Available in Spain, Sky offers a variety of UK channels, including BBC, if you subscribe to their international packages.
Other Satellite Services: Companies like Astra provide options for receiving channels from multiple countries, including the UK.
4. Online Streaming Services
There are numerous online platforms that offer foreign language programming. Some notable mentions include:
YouTube: Many networks upload full episodes or clips on their official channels.
Pluto TV: A free streaming service that offers international channels, including some UK content.
Facebook Watch: Various shows and channels are available for streaming on this platform.
5. International Cable Packages
Some cable providers in Spain offer international packages that include foreign channels. Research local providers to find packages that include BBC or other national programs from your home country.
Conclusion
Accessing foreign language TV in Spain doesn't have to be a challenge. With the right tools and services, you can enjoy your favorite shows and stay connected to your culture. Whether through smart TV apps, VPNs, satellite services, or online streaming, there are plenty of options available to suit your viewing preferences. Happy watching!
